2005 Husqvarna TC250 – Continued Refinement of the Compact Four-Stroke
The 2005 Husqvarna TC250 was an evolutionary development of the new-generation 250 four-stroke platform introduced only a few years earlier. Rather than replacing the basic engine or chassis concept, Husqvarna concentrated on improving reliability, rideability and detail specification while retaining the compact 249.5cc DOHC engine, five-speed motocross gearbox and steel-framed European chassis.
The short-stroke engine retained its 76.0 x 55.0 mm bore and stroke and high 12.5:1 compression ratio. Fuel delivery was handled by a Keihin FCR-MX flat-slide carburettor, giving the TC250 the strong throttle response expected from a competition four-stroke of the period. Owners rebuilding a worn fuel system can compare replacement carburettor options when original components are no longer serviceable.
Suspension remained distinctly Husqvarna, with a 45 mm Marzocchi Shiver inverted fork offering approximately 300 mm of travel and a Sachs shock operating through the Progressive Soft Damp linkage at the rear. Correct oil condition and level remain critical on these older forks, and the MXOwners fork oil reference is useful during servicing.
The TC250 was still a serious race motorcycle, so surviving examples should be checked carefully for valve-clearance history, cam-chain wear, oil-change intervals and air-filter sealing. Wheel and linkage bearings also deserve close inspection after years of motocross use, with the MXOwners Bearing Finder useful during a chassis rebuild. The 2005 model did not represent a new generation, but it helped mature Husqvarna's compact four-stroke platform into a more established alternative to the increasingly dominant Japanese 250F machines.
