2006 Husqvarna CR125 – Fresh Styling and Öhlins Suspension for the Italian 125

The 2006 Husqvarna CR125 was an evolutionary update rather than an entirely new generation, but it was more noticeable than some of the immediately preceding model-year changes. The CR125 received Husqvarna's newer red-and-white appearance, along with revised fuel-tank and side-panel styling shared with the company's four-stroke motocross range. Underneath, the familiar Italian-built 124.8cc two-stroke and six-speed transmission remained.

The engine continued with a 54.0 x 54.5 mm bore and stroke, a 38 mm Mikuni TMX carburettor and reed-valve induction. A well-maintained intake system is particularly important on a small-bore two-stroke, and owners replacing worn components can compare carburettor replacement options when restoring an original machine.

One of the notable features of the 2006 model was its European suspension combination. A Marzocchi inverted fork handled the front while an Öhlins remote-reservoir monoshock controlled the rear. Correct fork oil level and condition have a major effect on how these older units perform, making the MXOwners fork oil reference useful during suspension servicing.

Today the 2006 CR125 stands out as a relatively uncommon alternative to the Japanese 125 motocross bikes of the period. Owners should pay particular attention to the H.T.S. power-valve system, top-end condition, wheel and linkage bearings and air-filter sealing. The MXOwners Bearing Finder can help identify replacements when rebuilding the chassis. Properly sorted, the 2006 CR125 remains a light, fast and distinctive example of Husqvarna's Italian two-stroke era.
