2006 Suzuki RM-Z250 – The Final Steel-Framed First Generation

The 2006 Suzuki RM-Z250 was primarily a refinement of the first-generation machine rather than an all-new model. Suzuki retained the steel perimeter frame, 249 cc DOHC engine and Keihin FCR carburettor used on the earlier RM-Z250, making 2006 the final stage of the original platform before Suzuki introduced a much more substantial redesign for 2007.

The engine continued with its 77.0 x 53.6 mm bore and stroke, four-valve cylinder head and high 12.6:1 compression ratio. Fuel was delivered through a 37 mm Keihin FCR flat-slide carburettor equipped with a throttle-position sensor. Correct jetting and accelerator-pump setup remain important on surviving bikes, and owners replacing damaged components can compare replacement carburettor options.

The chassis also remained based around the steel perimeter design used since the RM-Z250's introduction. A 48 mm Kayaba inverted cartridge fork provided approximately 300 mm of travel, while the linkage rear suspension offered around 310 mm. Owners servicing the front end can check the MXOwners fork oil reference when working through suspension maintenance.

Historically, the 2006 model is interesting because it closes the first chapter of the RM-Z250 story. It still reflected the early Suzuki-Kawasaki development period, while the following generation would move Suzuki's 250 four-stroke in a more independent direction. Owners restoring one can also use the MXOwners Parts Finder when checking model-specific replacement components.
