2006 Husqvarna TC510 – Big-Bore Motocross Power Refined
The 2006 Husqvarna TC510 was an evolutionary update rather than a completely new generation. It continued Husqvarna's modern big-bore four-stroke motocross platform with the 501cc DOHC engine, five-speed gearbox and steel competition chassis, but received refinements aimed at making the motorcycle lighter-feeling and more effective on a motocross track.
The engine retained its 97.0 mm bore and 67.8 mm stroke, giving the TC510 considerably more torque than the related TC450. Fuel was supplied by a 41 mm Keihin FCR-MX flat-slide carburettor with accelerator pump and throttle-position sensing. Correct jetting, slide condition and accelerator-pump setup are particularly important on these large four-strokes, and owners rebuilding the original induction system can compare replacement carburettor options when components are worn.
Suspension remained distinctly European. A 45 mm Marzocchi closed-cartridge inverted fork provided approximately 300 mm of travel, while an Öhlins shock worked through Husqvarna's progressive rear linkage to provide around 320 mm. Correct fork oil level and condition have a major effect on performance, and the MXOwners fork oil reference is useful when servicing the original front end.
The TC510 remained a dedicated motocross model despite sharing much of its engine architecture with Husqvarna's TE enduro machines. Standard TC specification used 21-inch front and 19-inch rear motocross wheels and did not include the lighting and enduro equipment found on the TE510. Modern tyre replacements can be checked against the original sizes using the MXOwners tyre size guide.
For today's owner, maintenance history matters enormously. Frequent oil and filter changes, correct valve clearances, a clean foam air filter and inspection of the cam chain, hydraulic clutch and chassis bearings are essential on a competition machine of this age. The 2006 TC510 was not a clean-sheet redesign, but its combination of huge torque, European suspension and relatively compact chassis made it one of Husqvarna's most distinctive big-bore motocross bikes of the mid-2000s.
