2007 Kawasaki KX250 – The Final Full-Size Kawasaki Two-Stroke

The 2007 Kawasaki KX250 was largely a carry-over development of the extensively redesigned 2005 platform and the refined 2006 model. There was no completely new engine or chassis generation for 2007; instead Kawasaki continued with its proven 249 cc KIPS-equipped two-stroke, steel perimeter frame and Kayaba suspension package.

The engine retained its 66.4 x 72.0 mm bore and stroke, five-speed transmission and Keihin PWK38S 38 mm carburettor. Correct jetting remains important on these bikes, particularly when exhaust systems, fuel, temperature or altitude differ from standard. Owners rebuilding an incomplete machine can compare replacement carburettor options when the original unit is damaged or missing.

The 48 mm Kayaba twin-chamber fork and Uni-Trak rear suspension also carried forward, giving the KX250 approximately 300 mm of front travel and 310 mm at the rear. Owners servicing the front end can refer to the MXOwners fork oil reference for fork servicing information.

The 2007 KX250 is historically significant because it marked the end of Kawasaki's full-size production 250 two-stroke motocross line. It still used the classic competition formula of kick starting, premixed fuel and a lightweight two-stroke engine. The MXOwners premix calculator is useful for preparing its 32:1 fuel mixture accurately. For owners today, the 2007 model represents the final evolution of decades of KX250 development before Kawasaki's 250-class focus moved completely to four-strokes.
