2007 Suzuki RM250 – Refining Suzuki’s Late-Generation Two-Stroke
The 2007 Suzuki RM250 was largely a refinement of the heavily updated 2006 model rather than another complete redesign. Suzuki had already made major changes to the RM250’s engine, chassis and suspension for 2006, so the 2007 machine retained the same basic package with smaller detail updates aimed at keeping the bike competitive in a motocross market increasingly dominated by four-strokes.
At its heart was the familiar 249 cc liquid-cooled two-stroke engine with a 66.4 mm bore and 72.0 mm stroke. The Keihin PWK38S carburettor and Suzuki exhaust-valve system gave the RM250 the strong, responsive character the model had become known for. Owners working on incomplete or modified bikes can compare suitable replacement carburettor options when the original unit is worn or missing.
The chassis continued to use the revised frame layout introduced for 2006, which had been developed to improve stability while preserving the RM’s famously quick steering. Showa suspension remained at both ends, with the 47 mm twin-chamber fork providing 310 mm of travel and the rear linkage suspension providing the same amount of rear-wheel movement. Correct servicing makes a noticeable difference to these forks, and the MXOwners fork oil reference is useful when checking oil type and quantity.
The 2007 RM250 also retained traditional competition two-stroke features including kick starting, a five-speed gearbox and premixed fuel. Suzuki specified a 30:1 fuel-to-oil ratio with a suitable racing two-stroke lubricant, and the MXOwners premix calculator can simplify mixing different fuel quantities accurately.
By 2007 the RM250 was approaching the end of Suzuki’s full-size two-stroke motocross era, but it was far from obsolete. It remained light, fast-steering and mechanically simple, with a broad engine developed through years of refinement. For modern owners, the 2007 model represents one of the most developed versions of Suzuki’s long-running RM250 formula.
