The 2008 Suzuki RM-Z250 was primarily a refinement of the major redesign introduced for 2007. Suzuki retained the aluminium twin-spar frame, 249 cc DOHC four-stroke engine, Keihin FCR carburettor and Showa suspension package, concentrating instead on detail improvements to power delivery, chassis feel and durability.
The engine continued with its 77.0 x 53.6 mm bore and stroke and 13.4:1 compression ratio. Fuel was still supplied by a 37 mm Keihin FCR flat-slide carburettor with a throttle-position sensor, so correct jetting and accelerator-pump setup remained important to throttle response and starting. Owners repairing worn induction components can compare replacement carburettor options.
The aluminium chassis carried over from 2007 and remained one of the biggest differences between this generation and the earlier steel-framed RM-Z250. A 47 mm Showa twin-chamber fork and Showa rear shock provided approximately 310 mm of travel at each end, with extensive damping adjustment for motocross use. The MXOwners fork oil reference is useful when servicing the front suspension.
For owners today, the 2008 RM-Z250 is a straightforward example of Suzuki refining a successful new platform rather than starting over again. It still represents the carburetted era of the RM-Z250 before electronic fuel injection arrived later, and the MXOwners Parts Finder can help when checking replacement components for restoration or race preparation.
