2010 Kawasaki KX250F – Refining the Carburetted KX

The 2010 Kawasaki KX250F was a substantial refinement of the all-new 2009 platform rather than another complete redesign. Kawasaki retained the aluminium perimeter frame and Keihin FCR carburettor but revised a surprisingly large number of components, including the piston, cylinder, crankshaft, transmission, radiators, swingarm, steering stem, exhaust and suspension settings.

A new lightweight bridged-box-bottom piston was one of the key engine changes, bringing technology developed for Kawasaki's factory race bikes to the production KX250F. The cylinder, crankshaft and oiling system were revised for improved durability, while larger radiators improved cooling. Fuel delivery remained through the Keihin FCR-MX37 carburettor, making 2010 the final stage of Kawasaki's carburetted 250F development before fuel injection arrived. Owners maintaining the induction system can compare replacement carburettor options.

Chassis development included a revised steering stem and swingarm intended to give lighter handling and improved rider feel. The 47 mm Showa twin-chamber fork and Uni-Trak rear suspension retained extensive adjustment, with revised settings to match the chassis changes. The MXOwners fork oil reference is useful when servicing the twin-chamber front suspension.

For owners today, the 2010 KX250F is an interesting bridge between two eras. It combines a highly developed carburetted four-stroke engine with a modern aluminium chassis immediately before Kawasaki adopted electronic fuel injection for the KX250F. The MXOwners Parts Finder can help when checking replacement components for maintenance or restoration.
