2010 Kawasaki KX450F – Refining Kawasaki’s Fuel-Injected 450

The 2010 Kawasaki KX450F was primarily a refinement of the major redesign introduced for 2009 rather than another completely new generation. Kawasaki retained the aluminium perimeter frame, 449 cc DOHC engine and electronic fuel injection, while concentrating on improving power delivery, chassis feel and suspension setup.

The 449 cc engine continued with its 96.0 x 62.1 mm bore and stroke and high-compression four-valve cylinder head. Keihin electronic fuel injection replaced the carburettor tuning work familiar to earlier KX450F owners and provided more consistent fuel delivery as temperature and altitude changed. Kawasaki revised engine mapping and internal details for 2010 to improve throttle response and make the considerable 450-class power easier to use.

The aluminium perimeter frame carried forward with detail changes aimed at balancing rigidity and rider feedback. Kayaba suspension remained at both ends, with a 48 mm twin-chamber fork and Uni-Trak rear shock offering extensive damping adjustment. Correct oil and internal servicing have a major effect on fork performance, making the MXOwners fork oil reference useful during front-suspension maintenance.

Standard motocross wheel sizes remained 21 inches at the front and 19 inches at the rear, and owners can check replacement sizing with the MXOwners tyre size guide. For maintenance and rebuild work, the MXOwners Parts Finder can also help identify suitable replacement components. The 2010 KX450F represents Kawasaki refining its early fuel-injected 450 platform rather than reinventing it.
