2010 Husqvarna TC450 – Kayaba Suspension for the Proven Italian 450
The 2010 Husqvarna TC450 was an evolutionary update rather than a completely new generation. The proven 449cc DOHC engine, five-speed motocross gearbox and steel-frame layout remained, but Husqvarna continued refining the chassis and suspension package to keep the TC450 competitive against increasingly sophisticated Japanese and European 450 motocross machines.
The engine retained its 97.0 x 60.76 mm bore and stroke and high 12.9:1 compression ratio, with fuel supplied by a 41 mm Keihin FCR-MX flat-slide carburettor. The FCR gives excellent response when correctly set up, but worn slides, accelerator-pump components and incorrect jetting can cause poor starting and hesitation. Owners rebuilding the original induction system can compare replacement carburettor options when required.
A significant chassis change for 2010 was the move to 48 mm Kayaba AOS sealed-cartridge forks. The Kayaba units provided approximately 300 mm of front-wheel travel and offered compression and rebound adjustment, while a Sachs linkage shock continued at the rear. The MXOwners fork oil reference is useful when servicing the original front suspension.
The TC450 remained a dedicated motocross machine, using a 21-inch front and 19-inch rear wheel, hydraulic disc brakes and no enduro lighting equipment in standard TC specification. Owners replacing aged tyres can compare the original 80/100-21 front and 110/90-19 rear dimensions with modern alternatives using the MXOwners tyre size guide.
For today's owner, maintenance history is especially important. Regular oil and filter changes, accurate valve-clearance checks, clean air filtration and inspection of the cam chain, hydraulic clutch and chassis bearings are essential. The 2010 TC450 was not a clean-sheet redesign, but the Kayaba suspension and continuing chassis development made it one of the more refined versions of Husqvarna's Italian-built carburetted 450 motocrosser.
