2010 Husqvarna TC510 – The Final Development of the Italian Big-Bore TC

The 2010 Husqvarna TC510 was primarily an evolutionary model rather than a new generation. It continued the well-developed Italian-built 501cc four-stroke platform used in the preceding TC510, retaining its steel chassis, carburetted engine and five-speed motocross transmission. By this stage Husqvarna had refined the design through several seasons of competition, making the 2010 bike one of the mature versions of the traditional TC510 before the company's later move toward the BMW-influenced 449 and 511 generation.

The engine retained its 97.0 mm bore and 67.8 mm stroke, producing 501cc and giving the TC510 substantially more low- and mid-range torque than the related TC450. Fuel delivery remained through a 41 mm Keihin FCR-MX flat-slide carburettor on the TC motocross model. Correct jetting, accelerator-pump adjustment and slide condition remain important on surviving machines, and owners can compare replacement carburettor options when original components require replacement.

The chassis continued with Husqvarna's high-strength steel construction and a lightweight alloy rear subframe. Up front was a 50 mm Marzocchi twin-chamber fork with approximately 300 mm of travel, while a Sachs linkage shock handled the rear. The Marzocchi fork used SAE 5 oil at approximately 350 cm³ per leg, making the MXOwners fork oil reference useful when servicing the original suspension.

Standard motocross equipment included a 21-inch front wheel and 19-inch rear, with 80/100-21 and 110/90-19 tyres. Owners replacing old rubber can compare modern sizes using the MXOwners tyre size guide. The TC remained the motocross model despite sharing much of its engine architecture with Husqvarna's TE and TXC machines, so lights or enduro equipment found on surviving examples may have been added later.

For today's owner, condition and maintenance history are more important than outright mileage. Regular oil and filter changes, accurate valve-clearance checks, clean air filtration and inspection of the cam-chain tensioner, cooling system, clutch and chassis bearings are essential. The 2010 TC510 did not reinvent Husqvarna's big-bore motocrosser, but it represents the mature end of an important line: a powerful, steel-framed Italian 500-class four-stroke with enormous torque and a character very different from the 450s that dominated the period.
