Service Data

Fuel TypeUnleaded petrol, minimum 91 PON / approximately 95 RON
Premix InformationNot applicable — four-stroke engine with separate engine and transmission lubrication systems
Gearbox OilHonda GN4 SAE 10W-30 four-stroke motorcycle oil or equivalent meeting API SG or higher and JASO MA, without energy-conserving friction modifiers. Capacity: 0.68 litres after draining; 0.75 litres after engine disassembly. Transmission lubrication is separate from engine lubrication.
Air FilterWashable, reusable oiled foam air filter element in redesigned 2014 airbox
Service NotesCompetition-use motorcycle requiring frequent maintenance. Engine oil capacity: 0.67 litres after draining, 0.69 litres with oil filter replacement and 0.85 litres after disassembly. Transmission oil must be changed separately. Cold valve clearance: intake 0.12 ± 0.03 mm; exhaust 0.28 ± 0.03 mm. Idle speed: 2,000 ± 100 rpm. Cooling system capacity approximately 0.95 litres after draining. Spark plug has precious-metal electrodes; inspect using a wire-type gap gauge and replace if outside specification rather than bending the electrodes. Regularly inspect the piston, valves, cam chain, fuel-injection components, air filter, drive chain, wheel bearings and suspension linkage. Maintain the twin-chamber fork using the specified oil quantities and damper bleeding procedure. Refer to the 2014 Honda CRF250R Owner's Manual and Competition Handbook for maintenance intervals and service procedures.

2014 Honda CRF250R – A New Generation with Twin Exhausts and Dual-Timing Fuel Injection

The 2014 Honda CRF250R marked one of the most significant redesigns in the history of Honda's 250 cc four-stroke motocross machine. After several years of refining the fuel-injected platform introduced in 2010, Honda launched a substantially new motorcycle featuring a redesigned aluminium frame, extensively revised Unicam engine, new fuel-injection technology and a distinctive twin-muffler exhaust system. It represented a new generation rather than the incremental improvements seen on the 2011, 2012 and 2013 models.

Much of the inspiration came from the redesigned CRF450R, which had introduced Honda's latest mass-centralisation philosophy for the previous model year. Honda engineers wanted the smaller CRF250R to feel lighter and more agile during cornering, jumping and rapid direction changes. The new aluminium twin-spar frame was designed around a lower centre of gravity, with major components positioned
